Youth Engagement at Temple Beth Shalom builds on our core value of community. Starting with our youngest school-aged kids and continuing through high school graduation, we provide social activities that are complementary to students' religious education. Youth groups are organized by age group: K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-7th, and 8th-12th grade. Learn more about our teen-led 8th-12th youth group, TABSY, below.

We want our youth to feel connected to our temple home, one another, and the community at large. To foster that connection, we offer several programs throughout the year based on the child’s grade. We have some events just for kids and some events where parents are invited and encouraged to join in on the fun, such as temple celebrations like Chanukah and Purim.

Each quarter, Temple Beth Shalom offers a Kids' Night Out as a social event for kids in K-5th grade. Within the event, we group kids by grade: K-2nd and 3rd-5th. Each grade group has fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities. Kids get the chance to bond with one another outside of an educational setting, and they get to know teachers from Religious School and other adults in our community who chaperone events. Our 8th-12th graders can also work these events as teen chaperones, meaning you can drop your kids off in one place for your own night out!

Our 6th-7th graders have events throughout the year that facilitate bonding with their b'nai mitzvah cohort and allow them to see what staying involved in temple life as a TABSY member looks like.

Our post-b’nai mitzvah teens (8th-12th grade) also participate in meaningful engagement beyond their early education. Our hadracha program allows teens to work in Sunday School and Hebrew classes as madrichimot (teachers' aides). Teens gain real-world work experience, serve as role models to younger students, and lead activities where they feel comfortable. Teens can choose to work for monetary stipends or community service. Not only is this classroom work a mitzvah, but it looks great on college applications and job resumes. Apply here.

Temple Beth Shalom teens participate in a variety of extracurricular activities throughout the year. Our youth group, TABSY, hosts events once a month around a mix of social, religious, and humanitarian themes. All teens are welcome, regardless of whether this is their first or tenth event!
