Hebrew Program for 3rd-7th Grade
At Temple Beth Shalom, we are focused on helping all our students find success whenever they walk into our building. One of the key values of Temple Beth Shalom, inclusive service to all means that we are dedicated to making “Jewish Life” accessible physically, intellectually and spiritually to our learners of all ages.
- Formal Hebrew studies begin in 3rd grade, where students learn the Hebrew letters, reading skills and short prayers and blessings.
- 4th-6th graders learn the prayers that are part of our daily, Shabbat, and holiday observances while learning the skills needed to be leaders in our prayer community.
- 6th and 7th graders have the opportunity to join Trope Club. During Trope Club, students will learn Torah cantillation, which will help them chant Torah.
- In 7th grade, we offer an optional prayer practice class, once a week.
All Hebrew School classes will take place online for the fall semester.
Curriculum
Our self-paced approach to Hebrew makes our program unique. We allow students to progress at a rate that is comfortable for them.
In 3rd grade, students work closely with their teacher and classmates to learn the Hebrew aleph-bet sounds, vowels, and the important decoding skills that will help them be successful throughout Hebrew school. Students in 4th-6th grades continue their Hebrew studies and are able to work at their own pace to learn prayers-practicing reading, studying vocabulary, and doing activities that help teach deeper meaning.
