A survey of the life and times of Jeremiah and Ezekiel. We will explore the role of prophets generally, and these two in particular in the Jewish Bible. Who were Jeremiah and Ezekiel? Why were their words included in our Tanach? Prophecies or rewritten history? What were the religious and political implications as our ancestors attempted to juggle international relations with the Egyptians, Assyrians, and Babylonians? Did God punish the Jews by destroying their temple and sending them into exile? Or did the political leaders make some very bad choices? Can these ancient texts still inform our life today? Each session will be formatted independently. Participate in one, two or all three sessions as your interest and schedule permits.
