Confirmation: Eleventh & Twelfth Grades
Confirmation: tenth Grade
Our program for high schoolers culminates in our confirmation class.
Goals
- To enable our students to acquire deeper connections to Judaism, the land and people of Israel, and their Jewish heritage as adults in the community.
- To examine critical social issues through the lens of Jewish teachings.
- To continue the process of building a strong Jewish identity that will serve their adult spiritual and intellectual needs, in order to inspire them to active participants in the Jewish community.
Subjects Covered
Our confirmation curriculum provides an opportunity for students to engage in challenging and thoughtful discussions focused on complex elements of Jewish belief and identity. This is done with the intention that they will be ready to engage in Jewish life on campus and beyond.
Our confirmation curriculum provides an opportunity for students to engage in challenging and thoughtful discussions focused on complex elements of Jewish belief and identity. This is done with the intention that they will be ready to engage in Jewish life on campus and beyond.
Guided by our clergy, our 10th graders follow a course of study and discussion that focuses on bringing together concepts and ideas that students have been exposed to during their religious education, as well as new topics. This allows our students to formulate a personal system of belief and understanding necessary as they embark on their adult Jewish lives. This is accomplished through a variety of approaches that emphasize small group interactions and community building with the rabbis.
The topics addressed are those that are of current concern to the students and that will become more relevant as they begin their college careers. Some topics might include:
- Sexuality
- Substance abuse and self-esteem
- Jewish life on campus
- Israeli and Palestinian conflict
- Combating anti-Israel views on campus and in society
- Social justice
- Jewish rituals, theology, and traditions
Additional Specialties and Programs
- Continued involvement in our youth engagement programming for teens.
- Schmooze & Food nosh time before class starts
- Chances to learn with Temple Beth Shalom clergy
- Regular youth events including NFTY/Greene Family Camp year-round events like NFTY conventions, Fall Camp and Spring Camp and BBYO events
