Sing? Play a musical instrument? Join the Kol Hakavod ("Voice of Honor") Ensemble, our congregational choir and instrumental group!

Click here to see the rehearsal schedule for the next upcoming performances during the 5777/2017 Shabbat Shir Shalom!

Kol Hakavod is both a dedicated choral and instrumental ensemble and an opportunity for ongoing adult education. Being a choir member provides you with a unique opportunity to explore Jewish music from the past and present under the guidance of Cantorial Soloist Abby Gostein. We welcome anyone who wishes to celebrate Jewish musical heritage, develop and improve their vocal and musicianship skills, and contribute to leading the prayers of our community in an especially powerful way. If you're interested in participating, please fill out our Participation Form

Not only is Kol Hakavod an integral part of our High Holiday worship, we also sing at congregational worship services and community events throughout the year. We're even recording artists! Listen to us sing on a track from Koleinu, a choral compilation published by Transcontinental Music Publications.

T'filah Band's goal is to connect 4th through 7th grade students to their Jewish identity through the medium of Jewish instrumental music and to enhance Judaic knowledge through Jewish music learning and performance. T’filah Band aims to have fun and connect with other kids while making Jewish music, from traditional melodies, to prayer music, klezmer, and Israeli and/or camp tunes. Students are expected to bring their own instruments, and at least one year of private or school instruction on an instrument is recommended. An audition is required. Families must submit an online application to begin their T’filah Band registration

T’filah Band happens on Sundays from 10:25am to 11:00am and is open to all students, including both 1st and 2nd session Religious School students. 1st session students enrolled in T'filah Band will meet in the mornings during 1st session, in lieu of regular classroom music time. 2nd session students will arrive at 10:25am, before 2nd session begins.

Want to see them in action? Check out this parent-made video of Temple Beth Shalom's T'filah Band, led by Morah Caroline Bloom, performing Hall'lu for the school-wide Family T'filah on February 21st, 2016. Thanks to parent and congregation member Eden Myers for the video!

leading the Kids' Choir

If you like to sing, make harmony, and have a great time with friends, then the Kids' Choir at Temple Beth Shalom is for you! The Kids' Choir is a group of amazing youth in grades 2 through 7 who come together to have fun learning and performing Jewish music, all while connecting to each other and to their Jewish identities. The Kids' Choir lifts our spirits in song during Sunday T'filah services, on holidays and community celebrations (e.g., "Chanukah in the ‘Hood'"), and at Shabbat Shir Shalom (our annual extra-musical Shabbat service). All voices are unique gifts and everyone is welcome, so come and sing! No audition is required for Kids’ Choir, but families must submit an online application.

Kids’ Choir happens on Sundays from 10:25am to 11:00am and is open to all students, including both 1st and 2nd session Religious School students. 1st session students enrolled in Kids’ Choir will meet in the mornings during 1st session, in lieu of regular classroom music time. 2nd session students will arrive at 10:25am, before 2nd session begins.
