We encourage you to join our Advocacy Group at Temple Beth Shalom! As Reform Jews, we make a collective effort to bring our values to bear in the community at large. We engage on issues of local, national, and global concern. We participate in interfaith coalitions and activities. We speak out on behalf of the vulnerable and we seek justice for all.

The Advocacy Group meets on the fourthWednesday of every month from 1:15 to 2:30pm at Temple Beth Shalom. We also participate every year in events like Austin PRIDE and NAMIWalks with the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Austin. Please refer to the Temple Calendar for specific dates and event information.

Temple Beth Shalom is proud to be a part of Austin Interfaith. Austin Interfaith is a non-partisan, multi-ethnic, multi-issue organization of 37 congregations, public schools, and unions who work together to address public issues that affect the well being of families and neighborhoods in our community.

Issues currently on the Austin Interfaith agenda include good jobs, good schools, affordable and accessible healthcare that includes mental health, police relations, immigration, and affordable housing. We believe that Austin Interfaith will give us a much greater voice towards achieving social justice and teaming with various member religious and neighborhood groups will help strengthen Temple Beth Shalom’s position in the greater Austin community. For more information about Austin Interfaith please check out our FAQs page.

The Kotel (Western Wall) is the holiest site in Judaism. Ultra-Orthodox Jews have complete control of the Kotel and the Western Wall Heritage Council, which administers the holy site. Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist, Renewal, Humanistic, and secular Jews have no representation on the council and therefore the Western Wall reflects only one type of Jewish practice. To learn more and sign the petition, please click here.

The petition is to show the Israeli government that the policy of giving one group complete control of the Kotel must be changed.
