The Refugee Task Force at Temple Beth Shalom is running a Summer School Supplies Donation Drive for summer learning programs for recently resettled refugee youth. We'll be collecting school supplies in the main lobby at Temple Beth Shalom until Shavuot (May 30th)! There's no better way to celebrate the holiday of learning than by helping others learn!

See the infographic to the left for the list of specific supplies needed by each program. Still not sure what to buy? Don't have time to stop by the store on your way home? Don't worry! You can buy the items online from our Donation Drive Amazon Wishlist directly from your phone or couch! Don't forget to do it through Smile Amazon so a portion of your proceeds can be donated to the non-profit of your choice.

Summer learning loss is a critical issue affecting students of all ages. It is even more pressing for refugee youth who enter the Austin public schools already behind their peers academically due to a history of interrupted schooling or no formal schooling in their native countries. iACT and GirlForward both run summer programs for recently resettled refugee youth. Their programs teach academic English, some math skills and school skills expected in American schools, and help youth explore their identities and learn about the world around them. They often have opportunities to go on field trips designed to teach them more about Austin and United States Culture.

These great programs need supplies. And that's where our community can help! Please share with people you know!

Not interested in school supplies but still want to help these wonderful programs? You can donate directly to both GirlForward and iACT through their websites.
